Greetings PMINYC Members,
We are more than halfway through 2008 and I am happy to report that good progress is being made towards advancing our very ambitious agenda. Collaboration and communication are this quarter's "watch words" as selected Board members traveled to Pennsylvania to collaborate and coordinate with fellow chapters and identify best practices suitable for use here in New York City (see the PMI Region 4 Leadership Conference article, by Karen Fox, VP Programs). In addition, we have continued the brisk pace of chapter, breakfast, career network, and other chapter offerings.
Don't miss the full day of activities, as you still have time to sign-up. In order to register, go to our website at www.pminyc.org and join us. Two sure to excite keynote speeches will be provided by Michelle LaBrosse, PMP, Founder and CEO of Cheetah Learning and Andy Brown, Managing Director and Chief Technology Officer for Infrastructure at Credit Suisse!
At last month's chapter meeting, the icebreaker highlighted the fact that General Colin
Powell, USA (Ret.) will give the Keynote speech at the upcoming PMI Global Congress, in October. The question that was posed at the June Chapter meeting was "do you see General Colin Powell as a project manager and change agent?" In the July edition of PMI Today, as fate would have it, there is an article on him. General Powell's accomplishments demonstrate the "power of project management" through his work history. I recommend reading his discussion on project management and change management during times of "great change and crisis", as it will give you insight into how project management is transforming everyday business and diplomatic operations, and how it can be weaved into community involvement too.
Stephanie
Chapter President
