PMI NYC Letter from the President - July 2022

Letter from the Chapter President

Members and Friends of PMI NYC

We are well into summer and the chapter will be taking a break from monthly meetings for July and August. That doesn’t mean we are on vacation. The chapter leadership continues to plan events and developing new ideas to increase member participation and engagement. The first half of 2022 has been relatively successful for the chapter but there is much room for improvement. Member attendance at in-person chapter meetings remains low, for many reasons, some of which we have no control over. Safety and the continued concern about covid are prime factors. Online meetings using zoom have also been low and that can be attributed to the fact that so many people are working remotely that the thought of attending a 1.5-to-2-hour virtual chapter meeting is just not very appealing. We are working on some creative ideas to change the structure of meetings and to promote more networking time. Jennifer Ruda- VP of Membership, organized a “PDUs in the Park” at Central Park on Saturday June 18. 14 chapter members attended the event (no charge) and we hiked a bit, networked as we walked, and stopped several times for the presentation (The topic was Risk Management) and for some group discussion. I was the speaker for the event and the feedback from the group was great. We plan to do another “PDU in the park” in the near future. Another event that has been planned is the Harbor Lights Cruise. This is a great opportunity and a true bargain for members. Please consider joining us for an evening of skyline view, networking, music, and fun. You can find information on the website https://pminyc.org/.

Regarding chapter business, we are running under budget for 2022 as of May 31. There is a committee in place to conduct an internal financial audit and the annual election period has just started. Keep in mind that this is your chapter, and it is up to you to decide who will lead the chapter and provide the direction and guidance necessary to meet your expectations.
