Elon Musk brought cryptocurrency back into public view with his appearance on Saturday Night Live in a light hearted skit about Dogecoin. But what exactly is blockchain (also known as distributed ledger technology)? What kind of disruption will this technology bring?

Harumi Urata-Thompson will take us on a journey that will demystify the technology that underlies cryptocurrency commonly known as blockchain.

Speaker:

Harumi Urata-Thompson is founder and CEO of HUT Consulting. She specializes in leading and advising companies on taking innovative paths to achieve strategic, operational and marketing success in their businesses. Currently, she is consulting to and serving on the board of directors of several companies. In addition, she speaks at numerous events on subjects including Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Cryptocurrency, Cybersecurity, Outer Space, and Cross-border Business.

Prior to starting HUT Consulting, Harumi held numerous roles in several organizations:

• as Chief Operating Officer for the CFA Society of New York, a nonprofit affiliate of the CFA Institute with 10,000 financial professionals;
• as Director at Thomson Reuters overseeing innovation and managing a portfolio of mobile products across divisions;
• at Thomson Reuters, as Chief of Staff to the CEO of the Healthcare and Science business, with oversight of management activities of five business units, including acquisitions, business and product management, and planning for an annual $900M budget covering 4,300 employees;
• at Thomson Reuters, as Product Manager looking after the company’s fixed income business, while launching the most significant product in this division’s history;
• at Morgan Stanley and Citigroup, working in fixed income derivatives sales and mergers & acquisitions;

Harumi has an MBA from INSEAD and a BA, magna cum laude, in business from Sophia University in Japan. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Project Management Professional (PMP), an Advanced Communicator and Leader of Toastmasters, and bilingual in English and Japanese. Harumi travels extensively, plays piano, and is keenly follows performing arts.
